Thing 10 Screencasts

This was not too hard to do (if I have done it correctly that is). The hardest part was figuring out what I wanted to do. I think students would enjoy working problems the way I did using sciblink. I also thing screencasts would be a good way to give students directions. In the math lab, I could send them back to the computer to complete a task without having to stop a whole group activity. I plan to go and explore some of the screencasts already done on the website, Screen-O-Matic.

Thing 11

I loved exploring this website. I have spent quite a bit of time this year looking at powerpoints made by teachers for sale on the Teachers Pay Teachers website; so finding this free source was great. Since I teach in the math lab, powerpoints are a great way to give quick information and background knowledge pertaining to the hands-on activity I have planned for the lab.

The powerpoint I embedded has lots of great basic information that I can use with many different grade levels. I also like the real-world examples that it used.

Thing 8 Mashups

http://mashupawards.com/winners/

After watching the video I was still a little confused about what exactly a Mashup was. I tried exploring most of the links in the Thing 8 directions. Then I came across the website listed above. Although they no longer give mashup awards, searching their archive really helped me understand more about what a mashup was. I explored many listed on their site as well. I enjoyed exploring with coffeeseeker.com although that certainly doesn't have a direct connection to the classroom. I would be interested to know what others found that relate directly to teaching.

For Thing 7, I did open a Flickr account. I also uploaded a few pictures of my classroom and posted them on my blog. Flickr is a little overwhelming at this point because there is so much there. I have spent some time exploring the links for Thing 7, but will need to keep exploring.

Thing 6 Nings

This truly amazed me -- so many people, so many topics. What I really liked was being able to go to a specific Ning for a specific topic. I spent most of my time at the Classroom2.0 Ning and nctmonline.ning.com. I did find several people blogging about a math competition on the elementary teachersnetwork.ning.com, so I want to spend more time checking that out.

I did not join anything yet. I feel like if I join I should contribute. Right now, I am more comfortable just reading the great ideas of others.
